Twelve characters, brackets included
This is the rule that decides everything else. The field stops at 12, and it does not treat decoration as free. ꧁ is a character. 彡 is a character. The two halves of a lantern frame cost you two letters of actual name before you have typed anything.
Work backwards from it. A five letter name leaves seven for decoration, which is comfortable. A nine letter name leaves three, so you get one mark on each side and nothing else. Anything longer than ten and the honest answer is that you pick a shorter name or you go undecorated.
What a rename actually costs
There are three prices and most players pay the worst one. Renaming directly from your profile costs around 800 diamonds. Buying a Name Change Card first and using that costs around 390, so the card is roughly half price for the same outcome. If you are in an active guild, the guild shop version has been going for about 39 diamonds plus 200 guild tokens, which makes the other two look silly.
Free cards exist too. A seven day login streak usually drops one, weekly missions include them, and seasonal events hand them out two or three times a season. Prices move between events, so treat these as the going rate rather than a fixed tariff, and check the store before you spend.
Brackets are safe, fancy alphabets are not
There is a real difference between the two kinds of styling, and generators blur it. Bracket and mark decoration keeps your letters as ordinary letters and puts symbols around them. That has worked for years and is what every name on this page uses.
Fancy alphabets are different. They swap your letters for lookalikes from other Unicode blocks, and the name filter accepts some of those blocks and rejects others with no pattern you can predict. Spending a card to find out is an expensive way to test. If you want to try one anyway, our fancy text generator will produce it, but copy a plain version as a fallback first.
Why your name was rejected
Length is the most common reason and the easiest to miss, because the error does not tell you which rule you broke. Count the finished name including every mark before you blame the game.
After that it is duplication, since good short names went years ago, and the content filter, which catches more than profanity. Changing one letter usually clears a duplicate. If a specific symbol is the problem, swap it for one from the grid above rather than rearranging the whole name.
A name is read in half a second
Your name appears in the kill feed at a small size while someone is being shot at. That is the only typography test that matters. Two heavy frames stacked around a short word turn into a smudge, and nobody reads the word.
The names that read well tend to share a shape: one strong mark, a short word in capitals, and space left over. 彡SNIPER works at any size. ꧁☠彡SNIPER彡☠꧂ would not fit anyway, and if it did you would not be able to read it.
Guild tags eat your budget twice
If your squad puts a tag in front of everyone’s name, agree on it before anyone renames. A four character tag plus a separator leaves seven characters for the actual name, and a player called Pratyush is simply not going to fit.
Two or three characters is the practical ceiling for a tag. Short tags also stay readable in the feed, which is the point of having one. Our username symbols page has more on name rules across other games and platforms.
