The pride and pirate flags are composed, not single characters
๐ณ๏ธโ๐ is not one emoji. It is the white flag, a colour selector, an invisible joiner and a rainbow, four characters rendered as one image when the font supports it. The pirate flag works the same way, pairing the black flag with a skull and crossbones. When a device has no artwork for the combination, it draws the parts, so you see a white flag followed by a rainbow sitting side by side. That is a display limitation rather than anything wrong with the message, and it is the single most common complaint about these two flags. The plain ๐ด and ๐ณ are single characters and never break this way.
Chequered against triangular, and when each fits
๐ reads as completion. A run finished, a deadline met, a project shipped. It works at the end of a sentence without any supporting words, which is rare for an emoji. ๐ฉ reads as attention. It marks a problem, a note or a saved item, and it has picked up a secondary life as the red flag warning sign in relationship and dating talk, where it means the opposite of approval. Those two meanings sit far enough apart that context does the work, but it is worth knowing that posting ๐ฉ alone is now read by a lot of people as a warning rather than a bookmark.
