What Does the ๐ military medal Emoji Mean?
A military decoration on a striped ribbon bar, worn rather than hung around the neck. Service and valour are what it marks, and the distinction from a sports medal matters: this one is awarded for conduct rather than for finishing first, and on real decorations it is the ribbon rather than the disc that carries the identifying design.

About military medal Emoji
Usage: Remembrance and veterans' content uses it with appropriate weight, particularly around November and Memorial Day. Military history posts use it factually. Casual use is noticeably rarer than with the sports medals, since the subject carries enough seriousness that people hesitate to deploy it as a joke.
Encoded in Unicode 7.0 in 2014, in a batch that also brought the sports medal and the trophy. On real decorations the ribbon colours identify which award it is, a level of specificity no single emoji could hope to carry.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between ๐ and ๐ ?
What is being recognised. The military medal is awarded for service or valour and hangs from a ribbon bar, while the sports medal marks athletic achievement.
Do the ribbon colours mean anything?
On real decorations, yes. Ribbon patterns identify which award a medal is, which is a level of detail a single emoji cannot represent.
Is ๐ used casually?
Far less than the sports medals. The subject carries enough weight that people generally avoid using it as a joke, which is unusual among award emoji.
