Sports kaomoji turn a line of text into a tiny court or pitch. The classic ( ^^)p_____|_o____q(^^ ) is a whole game of table tennis: p and q are the players' hands gripping paddles, the underscores are the table, | is the net and o is the ball in flight. In (/o^)/ °⊥ ＼(^o\) two players jump at a volleyball over a ⊥ net. Elsewhere the curve ⌒ traces the arc of a throw, so (ﾉ･ω･)ﾉ ⌒ ○ sends a ball sailing off to the right. Newer faces simply hold an emoji ball such as ⚽ or 🏸 and let the colour do the work. Paste them into a match day group chat, a fantasy league thread, a five-a-side booking message or the caption under a post-game photo.

Building a court out of letters
Most of the older sports faces are tiny diagrams. Letters double as hands holding equipment, p and q facing each other being the neatest example. Lines of _ or ━ make a table, a bat or a barbell, as in ᕦ(•̀ω•́)ᕤ ●━━●, where the weights sit at either end. ⊥ is a mathematical symbol for perpendicular, but stood on its base it looks exactly like a net post. ⌒ is a Japanese arc mark, and placing it between a hand and a ball draws the flight path. Once you see the parts, writing your own match takes a minute.
Match day, training and the referee
Pick by moment. Before kick-off, ヽ(°ロ°)ﾉ⌒⚽ or ⚽ヽ(・∀・)ﾉ gets a team chat going. A late winner deserves ヾ(＾∇＾)ﾉ🏆 or \(^o^)/🏅, and a dodgy decision calls for (｀Д´)ノ🟥, the angry fan holding up a red card. Racket players get ( •̀ᴗ•́ )و 🏸 and ( ˘▽˘)っ🎾, boxers get (ง •̀ω•́)ง🥊. The ball emoji ⚽ and ⚾ were added to Unicode 5.2 in 2009, so they display in colour on almost every current phone, while text-only lines like (ﾉ･ω･)ﾉ ⌒ ○ stay readable even where emoji are switched off.
الأسئلة الشائعة
How do you read the ping pong kaomoji ( ^^)p_____|_o____q(^^ )?▼
Read it as a table tennis rally seen from the side. The faces at each end are the players, p and q are their hands holding paddles, the underscores form the table, the | in the middle is the net and the o is the ball travelling across.
Which sports kaomoji work for football fans?▼
ヽ(°ロ°)ﾉ⌒⚽ shows a big kick, (っ･ω･)っ⚽ carries the ball, and ┗(｀ー´)┓⚽ is a goal celebration pose. For a bad call, (｀Д´)ノ🟥 is a furious fan waving a red card. They suit live match threads and team group chats.
Why does the ball show as a box in some sports kaomoji?▼
Lines that include an emoji ball such as 🏸 or 🥊 depend on your device having that emoji. Older phones, some smart TVs and plain-text fields may show an empty box. The text-only versions, like (／・_・)／ ⌒●~*, use basic symbols and display almost everywhere.
