What Does the ๐ฅ clinking glasses Emoji Mean?
Two champagne flutes tilted together, with a small burst where they meet. It depicts the moment of the toast rather than the drink, which is why it reads as a shared occasion: nobody clinks glasses alone, and the character carries an implied second person in a way almost nothing else in the food and drink section does. Sending it to somebody includes them automatically.

About clinking glasses Emoji
Usage: New Year produces the single largest spike of the year by a wide margin. Weddings, engagements, promotions and anything congratulatory use it. It works as a complete reply on its own, meaning well done and let us mark the moment, which is a rare property among drink characters.
Encoded in Unicode 9.0 in 2016 alongside the clinking beer mugs and several other celebratory objects. The custom of touching glasses has various folk explanations, including one about proving the drink was not poisoned, none of which stands up to much historical scrutiny.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why do people clink glasses?
Nobody really knows, which is unusual for a custom this widespread. Folk explanations include proving a drink was not poisoned and engaging all five senses, but neither holds up well under historical examination.
What is the difference between ๐ฅ and ๐ป?
Register and vessel, which turn out to matter. Champagne flutes suit weddings and formal congratulations, while clinking beer mugs read as casual, loud and considerably less ceremonious than the occasion might warrant.
Can ๐ฅ be used alone?
Yes, and it frequently is. Sent by itself it means congratulations and let us mark the occasion properly, which makes it one of very few drink characters that functions as a complete reply.
