What Does the 🦖 T Rex Emoji Mean?
A Tyrannosaurus rex drawn in profile, upright on two heavy legs, with the characteristic short forelimbs held close to its chest. Comfortably the most famous dinosaur there has ever been, it manages to carry menace and comedy in roughly equal parts, the famously short forelimbs having generated considerably more jokes than the animal's genuine size and bite force ever generated fear.

About T Rex Emoji
Usage: Children's content and museum posts use it directly. The short-arm jokes are a genre of their own, applied to anyone struggling to reach something. Palaeontology accounts use it despite the artwork being behind current thinking on feathers. Something ancient or obsolete takes it as well, usually a technology rather than a creature.
Encoded in Unicode 10.0 in 2017 alongside a sauropod, giving the set two dinosaurs where it had none. Note emoji.json records it as 11.0, which is the known artefact of that file lacking a 10.0 bucket entirely rather than a real version.

Frequently Asked Questions
When was the T-rex emoji added?
In 2017, together with a sauropod. The set had contained no dinosaurs at all before that release, despite the obvious appeal to younger users.
Should the T-rex have feathers?
Current palaeontology suggests at least some feathering, which the emoji does not show. Vendors have kept the familiar scaly look, which palaeontologists note with some regularity.
Why are the short arms a joke?
The disproportion is striking and instantly recognisable, and it has become shorthand for anyone unable to reach something, which is a far gentler legacy than the animal earned.
