Unicode 5.2 Emojis

Pre-standardisation symbols later treated as emoji

What is Unicode 5.2?

Unicode 5.2 predates emoji standardisation. It added miscellaneous symbols and dingbats that Japanese carriers were already using as pictographs, and these were later classified as emoji once 6.0 formalised the category. Nothing here was designed as an emoji at the time.
