The flag some iPhones will not show
🇹🇼 Taiwan is in Unicode like every other flag, but Apple removes it from iPhones configured for the mainland China region: it disappears from the keyboard, and a 🇹🇼 someone sends you will not draw. Switch the phone's region and it comes back, so if a friend says your Taiwan flag never arrived, region settings are the likely reason, not a broken message. Other platforms, including Android, Windows apps with their own emoji and the web, draw it everywhere.
Look-alike flags at emoji size
Some Asian flags are close enough that they get swapped in a hurry. 🇮🇩 Indonesia and 🇲🇨 Monaco are both red over white; OpenMoji, when we hashed its artwork on 2026-10-18, even uses one image for both, while Apple, Google and Twitter/X keep them apart by proportion. 🇯🇵 Japan and 🇧🇩 Bangladesh both use a single disc, white field for Japan and green for Bangladesh. 🇰🇵 North Korea and 🇰🇷 South Korea are the pair people most often mean to tell apart; the South's flag is the white one with the red and blue taegeuk. 🇳🇵 Nepal is easy to spot because it is the only national flag in the world that is not a rectangle.
Spelling Asian flags by their codes
Each flag is two regional indicator letters, which matters if you build flags in code or on a device that shows letters instead of pictures. China is CN, Japan JP, India IN, both Koreas KP and KR, Vietnam VN and Timor-Leste TL. A few codes trip people up: 🇱🇰 Sri Lanka is LK, 🇲🇲 Myanmar is MM, 🇰🇭 Cambodia is KH, and 🇰🇬 Kyrgyzstan is KG. On Windows, where Chrome and Edge show these letter pairs rather than flags, this list doubles as a decoder.
