There is no single definition of the Middle East, so here is the one this page uses: the six Gulf states, 🇸🇦 Saudi Arabia, 🇦🇪 the United Arab Emirates, 🇶🇦 Qatar, 🇰🇼 Kuwait, 🇧🇭 Bahrain and 🇴🇲 Oman; the Levant, 🇯🇴 Jordan, 🇱🇧 Lebanon, 🇸🇾 Syria, 🇮🇱 Israel and 🇵🇸 the Palestinian Territories; plus 🇮🇶 Iraq, 🇮🇷 Iran, 🇹🇷 Türkiye, 🇾🇪 Yemen and 🇪🇬 Egypt. Egypt also appears on our African flags page, since it belongs to both lists. The Caucasus and Central Asia are on the Asian page instead. Sixteen flags is a small set, which makes it a good one for Ramadan and Eid greetings that tag every country in a group chat.

الأسئلة الشائعة
How many Middle East flag emojis are there?▼
16 on this page: the six Gulf states, five in the Levant including 🇵🇸 Palestine, and 🇮🇶 Iraq, 🇮🇷 Iran, 🇹🇷 Türkiye, 🇾🇪 Yemen and 🇪🇬 Egypt. Definitions of the region vary, so some lists add Cyprus or leave Egypt out.
Is there a Palestine flag emoji?▼
Yes: 🇵🇸. Unicode names it Palestinian Territories and spells it with the code PS. It has been available since 2015 on every major platform and works in WhatsApp, Instagram and X like any other flag.
Is there an Arab League flag emoji?▼
No. Only two organisations have flag emoji, the UN 🇺🇳 and the EU 🇪🇺. Arab League posts usually line up the member states' flags instead.
Unicode's official name for 🇹🇷 changed from Turkey to Türkiye in its emoji list, following the country's request to the United Nations in 2022. The flag itself and its code, TR, did not change, so nothing you have already sent is affected. Keyboards are slower: many still find the flag only when you search for Turkey, and our own emoji page for it still uses the older name. 🇵🇸 is listed by Unicode as Palestinian Territories and is spelled PS. Searching your keyboard for Palestine usually works, but if it does not, the official name is the one to try.
No copies here, unlike Europe and Africa
Hashing every flag image in the four sets we track (Apple, Google, OpenMoji and Twemoji) on 2026-10-18 showed that a dozen flags elsewhere in the world are exact copies of other flags, including Svalbard drawn as Norway and Ceuta & Melilla as Spain. None of the 16 flags on this page were. Every set draws them all as distinct images. The closest thing to confusion is the shared palette: red, white, green and black run through 🇦🇪, 🇯🇴, 🇰🇼, 🇵🇸 and 🇸🇾 because they descend from the flag of the 1916 Arab Revolt, so at emoji size it is the stripe order and the triangle that tell them apart.
Kurdistan and other flags that are not emoji
Some flags people look for here simply do not exist as emoji. There is no Kurdistan flag: Unicode's tag system could in principle spell the Kurdistan Region's subdivision code, but it has never been approved, and we found no artwork for it in any of the four image sets we test. The same goes for the flags of organisations such as the Arab League and the Gulf Cooperation Council. When a flag is missing, people usually substitute the colours with hearts, such as ❤️🤍💚 for Kurdish posts, which at least displays on every phone.
