No other emoji among the most-searched hubs has been touched as often. Rainbow started small, with 64 pairings, and has been topped up in almost every Emoji Kitchen release since. That steady attention is a decent proxy for how much Google expects it to be used, and it matches what we see in search: rainbow is one of the few weather emoji people look for mashups of by name rather than stumbling onto.
Why rainbow overlays almost anything
A rainbow is an arc of colour with no fixed anchor point, so the artwork can be draped over, behind or across a partner without obscuring it. That flexibility is why it reached 611 while cloud, which shares the same weather category and the same launch date, needed a 258-pairing release in February 2026 to catch up. Shape matters more than category when you are predicting which emoji will end up with complete coverage.

How many rainbow combinations are missing?
Eight, out of 619 possible partners. In practice you can treat rainbow as universal. If a pairing returns nothing it is almost certainly one of those eight rather than a problem with the tool.
When did rainbow last get new mashups?
On 29 April 2026, which added one. The substantial recent additions were the 213 shipped on 30 January 2025. Single-sticker releases like the latest one usually mean an emoji has run out of partners to cover.
Are rainbow mashups different from the rainbow flag ones?
They are not interchangeable. Unicode treats the rainbow and the rainbow flag as different characters, and Google builds a different sticker set for each. A combination you find under one will not exist under the other.
